Kitchen Sink scarf
The Kitchen Sink scarf is designed to use up leftover worsted weight yarn but you can, of course, use any weight yarn - either by holding it double or adjusting the stitch count. The gauge given, and the measurement of the scarf, is for worsted weight yarn, but in all honesty it’s a very vibey crochet recipe. Do whatever you feel like, you’ll end up with a nice scarf either way. For a scarf without a fringe you’ll need slightly less yarn.
Size
One size, approximately 190x22 cm plus desired length of fringe.
Materials
Yarn
Approximately 250 grams of worsted weight yarn
Hook 5mm
Gauge for 10x10 cm: 8 sts by 16 rows in moss stitch crochet
Moss stitch crochet - first row: sc 1, ch 1 while skipping the next st. On the next row, sc 1 under the ch from the previous row, and ch 1 over the sc from the previous row. 1 sc + 1 ch are counted as 1 moss st. All moss st counts are including the first 2 ch of row.
Abbreviations
ch - chain loop
sc - single crochet
st/sts - stitch/stitches
eor - end of row
Pattern
Row 1: with hook 5mm, ch 301 (or any odd number of sts that correspond to the length you want your scarf)
Row 2: turn, in the third st from hook, sc 1, *ch 1 and skip the next st, in the following st sc 1*, repeat *-* (moss stitch) to eor. Cut the yarn leaving a tail of approximately 20 cm and join in another yarn. Make sure to leave an approximately 20 cm long tail on the yarn you join in.
Row 3: turn, ch 2, skip the sc from previous and make 1 sc under the chain from previous row, *ch 1 and skip the next st, under the next ch: sc 1* repeat *-* (moss stitch) to eor, cut the yarn leaving a tail of approximately 20 cm and join in the new color. Make sure to leave an approximately 20 cm long tail on the yarn you join in.
Repeat row 3 until you have a total of 35 rows on your work, or until scarf reaches the desired width. Fasten off but leave an approximately 20 cm long tail.
Assembly
Tie the loose ends together with a double knot to secure the fringe. I added extra yarn to my fringe by cutting approximately 40 cm long pieces of my yarn and tying it to the scarf, but that is completely optional. Block with the appropriate method for your yarn. Once dry, if needed, cut the fringe to a uniform length.
