Buy Less Beanie
Totally free pattern, designed for a proud, paid partnership with Nordregio and Nordisk Samarbejde
Materials
Approximately 150 g of scrap yarn. The yarn weight should be bulky, or yarns held together that add upp to bulky weight. For our hat we held one strand of DK, Fingering and Lace together, and to get the color effect one strand of yarn was changed into a new color every row.
6 mm crochet hook
Gauge
Gauge: 14 sts x 12 rows for 10 cm in yarn over slip stitch in the back loop only, on hook 6 mm, or hook needed to meet gauge.
Methods
Yarn over slip stitch - yarn over, insert hook in the advised stitch, yarn over and pull through all remaining loops on hook.
Abbreviations
Ch - chain
Yoss - yarn over slip stitch
EOR - end of row
St/s - stitch/es
This pattern is made in one panel, back and forth, and then sewn together.
Beanie
Row 1: ch 50
Row 2: turn, ch 1, yoss blo to eor.
*Row 3: turn, ch 1, yoss blo until you have 2 sts left on row. End the row here, to start shaping the top of the hat.
Row 4: turn, ch 1, yoss blo to eor.*
Do *-* a total of 3 times, until you have 44 sts on row 8.
Row 9: turn, ch 1, yoss blo to eor, then proceed to yoss blo in the stitches you skipped from row 7, 5 and 3 all the way to the top.
Row 10: turn, ch 1, yoss blo to eor.
Repeat row 3 to row 10 until the beanie fits comfortably around your head. I have quite a small head and needed 6 repeats. Make sure it’s a little snug, as beanies have a tendency to stretch with wear.
Fasten off, but leave a long tail that you use to sew up the sides of the beanie with whip stitches from the right side, then thread that same tail through the top stitches of the beanie and pull tight to close. Secure the end and weave in any loose ends. Block using the appropriate method for your yarn
